5G Research Hub Munich

The 5G Research Hub Munich targets the development of an experimental 5G platform at the Technical University of Munich based on a joint research project started in 2019 between the Chair of Communication Networks (Prof. Wolfgang Kellerer) and the Chair of Media Technology (Prof. Eckehard Steinbach) funded by the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy.

- Successful 5G communication over an optical feeder link for satellites

In a joint work with DLR, we could successfully control our robot over a optical feeder link for satellite communication between Weilheim and Hohenpeißenberg on Dec. 3, 2020, which resulted in a joint publication.

On October 29, 2020 Frau Dr. Sabine Jarothe, Amtschefin of the StMWi has visited our lab and enjoyed our demonstration including the new 2020 features including autonomous navigation and dynamic path planning, Cloud-RAN and function split, data plane isolation.

- End-to-End Connection with New Features

The 5G Research Hub Munich presents the new features (autonomous navigation and dynamic path planning, Cloud-RAN and function split, data plane isolation) in our end-to-end system. Further, the LMT vision system is integrated to the robot which is streaming over 5G to head mounted display for teleoperation.

On Thursday, November 21, 2019 Serkut Ayvasik, PhD student at LKN, received the VDE Award 2019 at the Bayerischer VDE Abend at Hotel Bayerischer Hof for his Master Thesis.
